Method 1: DIY Fly Trap

Make your own unique fly trap! Put it indoors or outdoors to trap the annoying flies and get rid of them!

It traps them by using their elementary instincts against them. Their simple attraction of smell and light will draw them into the trap. They won’t be able to escape.

Very simple. Fermentation has a sweet and desirable smell which draws them to get into the trap through the holes in the plastic wrap.

Of course, the light will work against them also. The plastic wrap is going to look like an invisible wall. They won’t be able to find the holes and there will be nothing to guide them out.

ACV Trap

ACV (Apple cider vinegar) is fermented apple juice. Fermenting or rotten fruits are very attractive to flies. They can be lured with ACV.

You can also add some dish soap to the ACV, in order to make it deadlier. It will make them sink and will definitely eliminate any chance of survival.

You need:

  • 2 cups of Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap
  • Mason jar
  • Plastic wrap
  • Toothpick

Step 1. Take a clean Mason jar and pour some dish soap and ACV

  • Add 2 cups of ACV into a Mason jar.
  • Pour 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap.

Step 2. Protect the mouth of the jar with plastic wrap

  • Use plastic wrap to over the mouth of the Mason jar.

Step 3. Make several holes into the plastic wrap

  • You can use a toothpick to create multiple punctures in the plastic wrap.
  • This way you’ll let the flies into the trap.

Place the trap where you expect flies. When you notice the flies are dead inside, get rid of them and don’t forget to clean the jar.

Fruit Trap

A fruit trap is an excellent trap for flies. It works similarly like APC. Use rotten fruit.

This way you will not kill the flies, but it will help you to capture them effectively. The good thing is that it is much cheaper than the previous one. Simply put some rotting fruit in the bowl!

Things you’ll need:

  • Rotten fruits
  • Bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • A pair of scissors
  • Toothpick

Step 1. Put chopped up rotten fruit in a bowl

  • Peel and chop the rotten fruit.

Step 2. Protect the bowl with plastic wrap

  • Put the plastic wrap over the bowl.

Step 3. Make several holes into the plastic wrap

  • Use a toothpick and make several holes into the plastic wrap. The flies will be attracted to the smell.
  • When you catch flies, put the whole bowl into soapy water for 10 minutes to kill the flies.Clean the bowl and set the trap again.
  • You can prepare several traps and put them around your whole home.

Method 2: Use DIY Fly Repellent Spray

You can also use a repellent spray against flies.

But if you don’t want to use all the harmful chemicals present in the chemical-based bug sprays, use natural ingredients to prepare a powerful repellent spray.

You need:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap, diluted
  • 10-12 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 10-12 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • Spray bottle

Step 1. Take a clean spray bottle and fill it with water and some dish soap

  • Add 1 cup of water into a spray bottle.
  • Pour 2 tablespoons of diluted liquid dish soap into the bottle.

Step 2. Add few drops of essential oils to it

  • 10 to 12 drops of peppermint essential oil.
  • 10 to 12 drops of lemongrass essential oil.
  • Shake it well.

Spray your house. Spray it on every 2 weeks.

Method 3: Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is excellent way to get rid of flies.

You can use the oil in a sponge.

You need:

  • Lavender essential oil
  • Sponge
  • Can or Jar with a lid

Step 1. Apply lavender oil on the sponge

Step 2. Insert the lavender-scented sponge into the jar.

  • Leaved it covered for 5-6 hours or overnight. The strong odor will drive away the flies.

Method 4: Use lemon and cloves

If you combine it with lemon with cloves, you’ll get a completely natural fly repellent.

You need:

  • Lemon
  • Cloves

Single-Step Treatment: Place cloves into the pulp of the lemon

  • Cut a lemon into halves.
  • Place the cloves into the pulp of the lemon halves.
