How to Recognize and Treat Toxic Tooth Infection Before Visiting the Dentist

Abscessed tooth or toxic tooth infection is an infection between the gum and the tooth or at the very root of the tooth.

The toxic tooth infection is caused by poor gingivitis, severe tooth decay, sticky foods, high-sugar diet or dental hygiene. A bacteria enters the tooth and spreads down to the root.

1. Echinacea

Echinacea helps relieve pain and inflammation. You can use tinctures or capsules.

Ingredients

  • Water
  • 1 Echinacea herb or tea bag

Steep the herb or the teabag in a warm water for 5 minutes and strain it. Use this solution for washing your mouth 2-3 times a day.

2. Chamomile

Chamomile is an excellent choice if you have injured tissues because it has anti-inflammatory properties. You can use teabag or herbs.

You should drink 3-4 cups tea every day.

You should also hold a wet tea bag on the affected place.

If your tooth is swollen, make a cold compress and use it several times a day.

3. Oil Pulling

  • Slice of raw potato

5. Water and Salt Rinses

Many dentists recommend this natural remedy for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It can prevent bacterial growth, infections, and reduce inflammation.

Ingredients

  • ½ a teaspoon of salt
  • One glass of warm water

Put the salt in one glass of warm water and wait until it dissolves. Use this solution to wash your mouth, and then spit it out. You should repeat this 3- 4 times a day.

6. Garlic

Garlic is a natural antibiotic which prevents bacterial infections. It has anti-inflammatory properties and relieves pain that is caused by swelling.

  • 3 to 4 cloves of garlic

Peel the cloves and crush them to squeeze the juice out to release allicin. Apply the juice to the problem area. Repeat this twice a day.

Instead of this, you can chew a few cloves of garlic.

7. Peppermint Oil

  • 2-4 drops of peppermint oil

Take a cotton gauze and put few drops on it. Apply the gauze to the affected area and wait for a few minutes. Continue this for a month.

8. Wet Black Tea Bag

This tea has antioxidant content, so it fights infection.

  • Warm water
  • Black tea bag

Steer a black tea bag in warm water for few minutes. Carefully squeeze it and put it on your swollen area.

You can leave it for few hours or overnight, but don’t forget to wash your mouth with water solution afterward. Do this once a day for 2-3 weeks.

9. Hydrogen Peroxide

This product has disinfectant and antibacterial properties, so it reduces inflammation and pain, but it’s also an antimicrobial agent.

Ingredients

  • Two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • One teaspoon of warm water
  • Cotton ball (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the warm water with hydrogen peroxide. Wash your mouth with this solution.
  2. You can also make a paste. You need one teaspoon of baking soda and two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide. Mix them all together, until you get a paste.
  3. Apply the paste and wait for few minutes before washing it with warm water. Repeat this for several weeks.

10. Turmeric

Turmeric promotes oral health and reduces inflammation. It provides anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibiotic properties.

Ingredients

  • Warm water
  • 1 tsp. of turmeric power

Mix 1 tsp. of turmeric powder and warm water to make a paste. Apply it on the affected tooth. Wait for 15 minutes and wash it off.

Also, you can mix 14 teaspoons of turmeric with one teaspoon of olive oil, and apply it on the tooth. Leave it for fifteen minutes and wash it off.

11. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has disinfectant and anti-inflammatory properties, so it reduces inflammation and pain.

The apple cider vinegar has beneficial acids.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar.

Instructions

Take 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar and swish it around your mouth for five minutes. Then, wash your mouth with warm water. Repeat this 2-4 times a day for a month.

12. Oregano Oil

The oregano oil helps fight tooth infections, boost immunity, and speed the healing process.

It contains antimicrobial, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

  • 2-3 drops of oregano oil

Instructions

Take a clean gauze, put the oil on it and apply it to the affected area. Wait for 5 minutes.

  • Avoid chewing gum
  • Avoid caffeine and junk food
  • Avoid smoking
  • Brush your teeth twice a day
  • Every three months replace your toothbrush
  • Start using antimicrobial mouthwash
