The famous Bread Company Panera surprised everybody because it really kept its promise to point out artificial food dyes, preservatives, and ingredients that can’t be even pronounced correctly. Now, Panera Bread Company’s menu is 100% clean. Three years ago, they didn’t live up to their expensive ad campaign “Live Consciously-Eat Deliciously” which cost them up to $70 million.
Actually, this didn’t come as a surprise since the fact that their menu included chemical preservatives, nitrates, GMOs, MSG, and other hidden ingredients.
Besides meeting their strict limit to make a completely clean menu by 2017, Panera has sworn off exactly 96 harmful ingredients, including FD& C colors, sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate, sodium phosphate, sweeteners and artificial flavors, aluminum-based ingredients, MSG and its hidden counterparts, propylene glycol and other petrol-derived chemicals, and more. Panera Bread Company reviewed 450 ingredients and worked with hundreds of sellers in order to make the desired change successfully.
Panera Bread Company is the first national company in the world that make and meet a full commitment to exclude all preservatives, sweeteners, artificial flavors, and colors from sources included on their No List.
The CEO of Panera Wants to Help Fix the Broken Food System
Mr. Ron Shaich, the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Panera, says they understand this change as a huge step to fix the U.S. broken food system. He considers this action to rise above the U.S. broken food system at their own expense deserves commendation and praise. You can find his statement in the video below.
They believe that this helps other companies to move in the same direction as their image has always admired a wholesome, non-fast food look. For example, McDonald’s can’t imagine long lines of people coming in if they add new lines of kale salads because their customers like fast food.
On the other hand, it doesn’t mean they like the dangerous ingredients that come with their products. Before this major change in Panera’s menu, its food hid a lot of ingredients with harmful effect, even though their fans expected healthy meals. People who loved their food probably got tired of paying a lot for inflammatory foods, so most of them stopped buying their food.
Gluten and Some Other Ingredients Remain
The Panera Bread Company’s consumers should be aware that there are probably some ingredients which are still part of their food. For instance, their soups and bread still contain gluten. However, think of TGIF, Olive Garden, and other restaurants and think about how they changed their menu to remove preservatives, artificial colors, and MSG. This would still be respected.
Panera Bread Company has made a radical step to improve the broken food system in U.S., and we congratulate and inspire them to continue doing similar changes to their menu. We hope that other companies will follow this movement and people can finally enjoy a cancer-free meal.
