Later, they learned how to cultivate land, so they became farmers. Today, life is easier than it used to be. We have everything we need in the local market near our homes.
But, is this food healthy and organic? Do we know the origin of the food we consume? Are we familiar with the method of its production?
Unfortunately, the answer to these questions is-no.
After the World War II, in the U.S., the meat industry started developing. But, a few years later, factory-farmed cattle were fed with unnatural hormones to speed up their growing process.
Moreover, farm animals are often fed with diseased animals and even sawdust, manure, candy, plastic wrappers, and more.
Therefore, the farm animals which consumes sick food would also become sick. That’s why they are given antibiotics.
We are all concerned because our health is also harmed by this unnatural way of producing meat.
But, don’t worry. You can always choose wild animals meat because the meat from the wild or naturally fed animals is healthy and full of nutrition. But, you should never buy factory-farmed meat because it is not healthy and it no longer contains the vital omegas and other EFA’s.
The Harvard School of Public Health confirmed that EFA deficiencies are a reason for at least 100,000 deaths per year, and maybe more.
This problem concerns our cattle, as well as lamb, chicken, pork, and any other meat that is raised commercially. Moreover, even milk, eggs, fish, and dairy products, do not offer the nutrition they are supposed to provide.
So, you should always try to use nutrient-dense meat with plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, without harmful hormones and antibiotics. Here are some tips that can be of great help in discovering the health options for you and your family:
- Try to buy your beef, eggs, and dairy from local farmers and farmers’ markets.
- We live in a modern world. So, if you can find something locally, you can always buy it online. Just make sure that you buy grass-fed beef and pasture-raised poultry and pork.
- Buy grass-fed natural bison, because it has lower calories, cholesterol, and fat than beef.
Don’t forget that you should be very careful when you choose Salmon.
Sometimes, we think that all salmons look the same, but actually they are not the same. Some of them are labeled as wild, but they are actually farm-raised. They are not healthy and they don’t have any nutrients and omega 3.
Well, always look at the salmon’s color. Salmon flesh is naturally gray. If you see salmon which has a pink color, you should know that this color comes as a result of krill. Yes, farmed salmon is fed with chemically synthesized astaxanthin. So, don’t buy pink salmon.
We cannot and we don’t want to return to our ancient lifestyle, but we must take more careful what we eat and what we produce.
